I have a one man rigger that I made myself and I would prefer to use it rather than have others help me as there have been little bits of damage from others 'helping' me. I can do it as quick if not quicker than have others help me. There is no back strain for anyone if something doesn't line up straight away. My self and 3 others helped rig a Nimbus 2 recently and all 4 of us were definitely needed. I had the miss fortune to be holding the outer end of the inner wing panel for much longer that my back could tolerate and I couldn't help think how much easier it would have been with a rigger. I can get to the club early before others get there and before it gets too hot and rig it on my own. I don't have to come back early on a Sunday afternoon to be sure there will be others around to help me de rig. I can rig or de rig any non club day to take the glider home to do maintenance or go to another club. It is very handy to get the wings from the trailer to the shed. I have done 2 self retrieves out of paddocks using my self rigger. I would recommend one man rigging aid. Mine has been very handy.

I guess people routinely spend $1500 or so on "One person rigging aids" with no intention of ever using them for "one person rigging" especially as two saw horses costing $40 will do exactly the same if a second person is available. The second person in that case doesn'r even do much. BTW the electric remote control rigging aid is probably worth it. The video of the guy rigging the standard Cirrus had an awful lot of walking around the glider in it. I'm surprised there is a market for single person rigging tools in Australia with a second signature required. I guess people just ignore the rules when it suits. As Jim points out, there are many manufacturers of one person rigging devices However, one of the best that I have found on the web is manufactured by the Enstroj company in Slovakia. This same company manufactures the brushless electric motors being used by Pipistrel and other glider manufacturers. They have a very good web site, with a fifteen minute video of the device (SPRC) being used to rig an electric Apis self launcher, which was the test bed for the brushless electric motor. Also a good video of the Apis , which is now available from Pipistrel. see www.enstroj.si <http://www.enstroj.si/> . The Pipistrel site is also worth a look. They have an interesting range of sailplanes available, and sell at least some of them in kit form, for those with talent, time and an interest in home building.
