http://www.icom-australia.com/products/airband/airband.html My take on this would be that ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) probably has had an issue with the certification of the Icom handhelds and until this is resolved they have had to withdraw them from the market. Perhaps Vertex standard VXA-220 airband radio (made by Yaesu) would be a suitable alternative brand for you.
