PLEASE CHECK INTERNAL DATE ON THESE UNITS. I am still receiving calls from users realizing they have a GPS UTC date and time issue.
One the square navigation 303 display or GPS -NAV display please click left button 3 or 4 pages (depends on model) to LATITUDE then page up and you will see UTC TIME and UTC DATE. If you see a date of 1995 or 2005 then you have an issue (if black 302 vario and shows date 2015 then you are all OK) and probably have the older Garmin GPS 25 LVC and either needs to be replaced (in 302 vario) or needs new rechargable internal cell (Model 20 logger) The other way is to download a flight to OLC and you will get an error message back and it will mentions GPS25 LVC and YOU have the issue. The 302 vario will take the newer GPS15xL-W and should be trouble free. The older Model 20 (now almost 20 years old!!!!) will not take this engine so only option is fit a new rechargable cell within the old GPS25 engine and reset lat long and UTC date and time. Hope this explains the issues. For those in Australia (almost 100 gliders) still using LNAV and model 20 (now up to 20 years old) it may be time to consider todays replacement the Clear Nav Vario as there are significant improvements in sensing especially on those gusty broken days.
