Hi Glen,

Thank you so much for your reply, I *think* that turning off the Tablet PC
Components has solved the problem for the time being. I say "think" because
I had already manually fixed the errors, carefully avoiding mousing over the
problem errors. I've tried commenting out some of the code I added, in an
attempt to reproduce the problem again, & it seems to be ok. Fingers
crossed.

Thanks again,

Yann

Glen,

Thanks for that information, it's nice to know that MS is onto it, however
this from "The Visual Studio Blog" is pretty unbelievable: "Shortly before
the Visual Studio 2010 Release
<http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=151797> Candidate (RC) was
released, the Visual Studio team discovered a significant VS crashing bug on
machines using UI Automation (UIA)
<http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms747327.aspx> . This bug will
only affect a certain group of users, but for those users it renders the IDE
very unstable. We'd also like to stress that this issue has already been
fixed for VS 2010 RTM".

They knew about it, but released it anyway!

I've just turned off the "Tablet PC Components", but I now have to reboot to
see if it's made any difference. However, I wasn't using any of the UI
Automation stuff that was mentioned in the linked article.

Thanks again,

Yann

Michael,

Thanks for the suggestions. On Connect, I've added that I'm using VB in
fresh install of VS2010, no plug-ins. I've also pasted in the info from
About as you suggested.

I just don't have time to make a sample project (I'm trying to get work
done, so it's back to VS2008), & it's quite likely that it may not occur
except in particular circumstances. My point of disbelief is that the IDE
consistently crashes, not that something goes wrong.

I've been playing around with the RC of VS2010 & found a bug I absolutely
can't believe is in a release candidate of a product.

Rather than converting an existing project I've created a new one and been
"adding existing items" for the code I want to use from the old project.
Naturally there's missing classes & resulting errors. One by one I find

them

& add then add the code for the missing classes, but often, as I move my
mouse over the highlighted error (with a squiggly line & smart-tag), the
whole IDE simply CRASHES & restarts!

I've logged a bug on Connect:

https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/533489/vs-2010-c
rashes-when-i-hover-my-mouse-over-a-highlighted-error

Is anyone else seeing this? I can't believe that a release candidate level
product is crashing like this by simply moving the mouse over code!

I imagine for anyone to really consider your bug request you'll need
to provide significantly more details, like the language, any plugins
you have installed, and you could probably even copy the 'about'
details into the log.

Furthermore, please create a sample project that reproduces the error
exactly, so we can all test it.
