I did a stupidly basic amount of Googling and it turns out I was running some odd firmware (I literally hadn't even CHECKED, thanks to Michael C who encouraged me to engage my brain briefly) that was out of date. With the 'NBN Recommended' firmware of VA_A_39t_B_35j_24m.bin I get a bit higher:
