Submitted by Andrew Josey, The Open Group. 13th September 2025

Attendees:
Andrew Josey, The Open Group
Nick Stoughton, USENIX, ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22 OR
Eric Ackermann, CISPA
Geoff Clare, The Open Group
Mark Brown
David Wheeler
Eric Blake, Red Hat, The Open Group OR
Haelwenn Monnier, The Open Group

* General business

We confirmed the calendar for upcoming meetings, the next meeting
is September 25th.

On progress of the standard through the PSDO process Andrew reported
that ISO had sent him a proof copy for comment. This is technically
identical to the published version, with an ISO/IEC/IEEE cover page
and additional copyright notices. The FDIS ballot on this document
is due to start this coming week and end in February 2026.

Andrew will contact David to get him setup for Etherpad write access.

* Carried Forward

Bug 1927: Add sponge utility
https://www.austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=1927

[Action to Eric B] Start a 30-day request for comments on whether The Open
Group should sponsor the addition of this interface.

glibc realloc() behavior

[Action to Eric B] - respond to the thread and invite Alejandro to
open a bug against POSIX if we still need to address wording issues

Update 2025-06-26: discussion on mailing lists is still ongoing;
EricB or Alejandro will open a bug soon

* New Business

Bug 1941: Add widely-implemented options to grep
https://www.austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=1941

We understand Mirabilos runs a custom distribution of BSD:
http://www.mirbsd.org/about.htm

http://www.mirbsd.org/htman/i386/man1/grep.htm
ACTION: David Wheeler to do more research and update the bug before
next meeting

Bug 1942: Add common options to diff
https://www.austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=1942

Description of -i needs an xref to XBD 4.1 Case Insensitive Comparisons

In -q and -s detail of output should be specified in STDOUT. Specify
the string only for POSIX locale.

In the desired action -w should specify whitespace, not <space> and
<tab> (assuming that's what implementations do).

Bug 1943: Usage of "multibyte" vs "multi-byte" in the standard text
https://www.austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=1943
Accepted as marked, resolved, tc1-2024 tag

Change "multi-byte" to "multibyte" everywhere.

1944: posix_devctl() uses int for command where some ioctl() implementations
use larger type
https://www.austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=1944

Leaning towards changing int to a defined type, required to be an
integer type but unspecified whether signed or unsigned.

The desired action suggests ioctl_command_t as the type name, but
it ought to have "devctl" instead of "ioctl" in the name. Maybe
devctl_cmd_t ?

* Next Steps

We will start on bug 1616 if no new bugs are submitted before
the next meeting.

We can also return to Bug 1913.

The next call is on
Thu 2025-09-25 (WEBEX meeting - general bugs)

The calls are for 90 minutes

Calls are anchored on US time. (8am Pacific)

Please check the calendar invites for dial in details.
