I've just experienced an very frustrating thing. The format& styles

ideas other than the usual drag and drop.

To dock the format& styles toolbar, hold down the Control key while
double clicking at the top of this toolbar. (The blank area just to the
right of the Presentation Styles icon will do.)

BTW, this is explained in Chapter 1 of the Getting Started guide and
Chapter 1 of the Writer Guide. It probably isn't in the Impress Guide,
but perhaps it should be. IIRC, Michele and I left out a bunch of stuff
from the IG that was covered in GS, to avoid a lot of repetition between
books. Possibly that decision needs to be re-examined.

I guess the problem is whether we want the guides to be self contained or not, and in particular if we believe that people to pick up the GS before reading the [component] Guide. There are now several subjects that are covered in the GS but not in the IG or WG (cannot say about CG and DG).

As we are now mostly aiming at electronic publication I do not think there is much harm in repeating some of the basic concepts in each of the guides (after all, we do it already for things like Fontwork, Gallery, Background settings, and I do not think we had complaints).

What we need to do, as we discussed a while ago, is to avoid divergence in this common text (waste of authors and reviewers time). We should really bite the bullet and start building a library of subjects that are common to two or more guides. I know it is a bit complicated, but certainly not impossible.

I will take a look at re-inserting some text on docking and context sensitive toolbars in IG-01

Cheers,

Michele
