Hi Claire, Glad to hear you are going to take a plunge into indexing! For the user guides (in ODT), we use the tools built into Writer. The basics are described in Chapter 12 of the Writer Guide. Most of the Calc Guide chapters have index entries in them already. These may be out of date or simply wrong (for example, if a section was copied from another guide, it may contain index entries for Writer or Impress that need to be amended or deleted). And new sections may not have any index entries yet. I suggest you first go to the end of the Calc Guide chapter you're working on and build an index to see what entries are already in that chapter. Then look at what's missing or needs to be changed or deleted and insert or amend entries as needed in the chapter itself. (Never edit an index or TOC directly.) The tools are fairly easy (though tedious) to use. The difficult part, of course, is deciding what terms to include. Here is a checklist of things to consider when creating, reviewing, or editing an index: http://www.oooauthors.org/english/userguide3/res3/tips_indexing On my giant to-do list is an item for writing a little how-to for the OOoAuthors website on indexing, like the ones on inserting figures and other tasks. --Jean --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
