Going through the Draw Guide I see lots of places where we could simplify things by cutting out cross-references to figures that immediately follow the paragraph discussing them, and/or cutting out figure captions entirely where they are redundant and not referred to elsewhere in the text. (Many figures don't have captions already.)
I realise that some people follow the practice that every illustration must have a caption and must be referred to in the text. I think this practice is unneccessary, as well as providing extra opportunities for OOo to get the x-refs wrong. As we revise chapters and books, I am cutting out extraneous cross-references (and some figure captions), and I encourage other people to do the same. At this point there is no reason to change the almost-completed Draw Guide; this is just something to keep in mind for the future.
