So, the OOoCon 2010 is coming up on us really fast. I'll be attending
and giving a presentation on Wednesday afternoon.
This year I'm focusing on the very thing we've been discussing the
past couple of days... new project members (the need for mentoring,
guiding etc).
I actually wrote up the presentation (with help from Jean before she
left on her epic train journey) a couple of weeks ago, before we
started the discussion here on the mailing list. This issue is
something we've been aware of, and wanting to correct for a while.
With the recent increase in new members it's got to become a priority
for us as a team.
Anyway, the presentation will be made available on the conference
website after the conference, along with the audio/video if they
manage to record us again this year :-)
The presentation last year was quite good in my opinion. The
presentation was more of a brainstorm session. Some of the ideas
discussed were implemented in the past year. Some are still on my
ToDo list :-) I hope that the brainstorm session can continue this year.
I'll try to be available on IRC during the conference -
#openoffice.org-docs channel on Freenode - so if you are not attending
the conference you can pop in and comment, chat, ask questions etc.
I'll post updates if anyone is there in the channel.
If you've never heard of IRC or don't know how to get there, this
webage http://eglug.org/book/export/html/564 has a nice easy to
understand description (it's Windows oriented, but the principles are
the same regardless of Windows, Linux, OSX, Solaris, etc). If you
don't want to install a dedicated application for IRC, and you use
Firefox, you can install the Chatzilla addon

Clayton,
Sounds good. I look forward to seeing the presentation after the
conference. Have a great time!
