Rachel, thanks for all your work on this book. You can tell that I did not do any checking after I put it together and before turning it loose on the rest of you. I'm not sure what caused the figure numbers to jump like that, but I do know how to fix them, so I will do that at the same time as I fix the incorrect x-refs. I'll also look at the other problems you've spotted. Re figure captions: I prefer not to include a caption if the figure's relationship to the text is obvious AND it does not need an x-ref from some other page. Most captions add no extra information and just take up space.
