From the release notes of LO 3.4:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/3.4
LO 3.4 allows for saving files in flat XML,
socalled .fodX format (X=t,g,s etc). Supposed to speed things up:
<snip>
Filters
Re-write flat ODF import and export file filters from Java to C++
giving a huge speed increase. Try saving your writer document as a
".fodt" file (Peter Jentsch)
</snip>
Applies to all LO modules, use Save As and scroll down to the bottom of the
list of file formats to select flat XML.
Questions - compatibility between OOo and LO? Earlier versions (3.3) of LO?
Needs research and decision on how we handle it at Authors.
