Time for an update on the situation at Apache OpenOffice.org (AOOo) with regard to the production of user guides.
After considerable discussion on the AOOo list ([email protected]), the situation appears to be that we can continue producing user guides for AOOo using the ODFAuthors website and our own processes and mailing list, with the source documents remaining in ODT and the finished documents (in ODT, PDF, and printed form) being made available to users through links from the AOOo website to wherever the docs are stored. (Details on where that might be are yet to be worked out.) In other words, business much as usual for us. The model for this is the way Apache Subversion is handling its user guide: http://subversion.apache.org/ (see the "Documentation" link in the side panel on left). If you're interested in reading the discussion, you can look it up in the archives for the AOOo list; look for subjects "User documentation planning", "Source format for user guides", and "Scope of Apache license: what needs to be covered?" starting on page 3 of the archives: http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/incubator-ooo-dev/201106.mbox/browser We still have no good idea of the timing for the next release of OOo, but the developers are keen to do it as soon as possible (once licensing issues and other handover details are taken care of). So we have a bit of time to discuss improvements we might make in the user guides, and I'll be posting soon with some specific thoughts on that topic. I also hope to work some more on the Contributors' Guide, so new members of the team can have a better idea of where and how to get started. I'm sure I've forgotten something... --Jean -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe send email to [email protected] For additional commands send email to [email protected] with Subject: help
