Dan,
AFAIK OOo3.0 is still scheduled for release sometime in September.

Like Martin, I have several versions of OOo2 and OOo3 running on Ubuntu and coexisting peacefully. I got OOo3 from one of the mirrors and installed it using the method Martin describes, which does not attempt to mess with the Applications menu items.

Two recommendations:
(1) Use OOo2.3.1 for writing, as 2.4 has a nasty bug that resets some para styles to Default and OOo3 may have other bugs that would affect our templates or writing. The 3.0 template was developed in 2.3.1. (2) Get the latest developers' build of OOo3, not the public beta, which is a bit behind and has the same style-resetting bug as 2.4. If you're only using OOo3 for testing Base (and doing your writing in OOo2.3.1), then the style bug probably won't matter. But if you were writing in 3.0beta, it definitely would matter.

Worked fine for me. I have 3Beta, 3Dev and 2.4 all coexisting peacefully
on my kubuntu and suse machines.

when is 3.0 due out? ... I have the latest 3.0
Beta for the Mac Aqua, so that should be adequate for that. But would
someone please me a link to where I can get the 3.0 for LInux DEB.
Some instructions as to how I can have that running on my Ubuntu
system along side my 2.4 version.

As mentioned in another email, I will be changing my writing for Base
to using the latest 3.0 template Jean has provided us.
