"til now" means what? There is support for it now? I've just joined this
recently so forgive me if this has already come up.

Then people will never integrate into a Sun environment without patches
or using external hacks that don't come with the autofs distribution.
Besides, nscd makes this fairly moot.
I would urge you to reconsider "no support" as being "supported but
discouraged in big letters with accompanying explaination as to why this
is a hack." This exists at most every site I've ever seen where Sun
does the NIS mastery.
