I agree.. the parsing algorithm (and when it refers to the RoleManager)
isn't terribly well documented. I learnt it all through stacktraces ;)
I'll write up some docs on that this week, hopefully.

Now if only everyone did this :) Thanks, they obviously took quite some
effort. They read more like notes than official docs (some odd areas of
emphasis), so I won't put them in CVS, but they're a good starting
point.
