Why not keep the jars that are needed from cocoon in Avalon while still removing ant? The docs task in ant could do an 'available' for the cocoon classes, and if they're not there, give instructions to grab the cocoon jars and stick them in ANT_HOME/lib. Otherwise have steps as Paul suggested.
