I think I have the same issue:
(It is from todays cvs build.)

I get no audio and any scrolling will freeze aviplay.
I suspect replaceing will break some other application on this system, so
probably I avoid this procedure.
This inline removal is a bit fuzzy to me, maybe it is better to add some
comments to these source files about it.
