I noticed I get better audio latency performance when I renice what I think is
audio decoder thread (pid of video decoder thread - 1, and I find the video
decoder thread easily when it eats 80% CPU :-)) to -20. Audio performance
in default aviplay may be ok if you only run aviplay, but if you do some other
stuff concurrently you'll notice the difference. Renicing the thread actually
causes the thread to eat less CPU most of the time. I run a 2.4.5 kernel with
low latency patch.
I can't test changes in code cuz current cvs doesn't compile on me, I renice
the thread manually. Could someone test this proposal / make the change
permanent?
