They are - but for now just internal - the main focus for now is on the 
most common format DivX in .avi and .asf streams
(leaving the rest to mplayer for now - as myself I'm not using DVDs
nor mpegs these are not that important to me now)

Rather we try to achive the best performace and smallest amount of bugs...
(and there still a lot of them - e.g. streamed Asf is still broken)

If anyonw wants to write ReadHandler for mpeg stream - lets just go for it...
