Summary: No sound for play (record untested)

Initial Comment:
Using linux kernel 2.2.19 with i810 driver for
Motherboard integrated sound card.

Debian 2.2 Potato r2/3 system, and I can get esd to
play sound, mp3blaster to play without esd running,
xmms to play through esd as well as realplayer to play
through esd. Gaim sounds works fine esd or no esd.

Video works fine.

However, I cant get audio with aviplay from avifile on
*this* system.

On another system (similar installation) but different
video card and sound card, I have sounds working for
all of the above including aviplay from avifile.

(Video does not work so well on this system due to
limited color pallette (256 colors and no option for
private color map to avifile AFAIK.) Any info for
private color maps? (Sure. You say, you spend the $30
on a video card you cheapskate, but it won't help much
on the laptop which is a 3rd machine.)

Both compiled with fresh qt, sdl, w32 bin etc (not
reliant upon any from the distro) and I followed the
same procredure for both installs. only differences are
hardware/drives for audio.

Suggestions?

I looked through the FAQ for ref to use with esd, and
found none. Also looked in docs and search source for
reference to esd, but nothing. Any plans on including
flags for esd support in playing audio?
