Yeap - avifile now ignores what headers sais about MP3 stream and
tries to guess correct values from mp3 stream itself - but this is
not as easy as I've tought...

I've probably caught 95% of problem but some are still probably there
so I need to get some sample of them to analyze them - so thanks for url

hmm - not sure how we are connected and how we could influence libsmpeg,
but it's definitely interesting

Well I would suppose that each application lives in it's own memory space,
but maybe there is something wrong with shared library system and
latest XFree4.X system.

According to some Branden's note (Debian XFree maintainer)
we would probably need to completely redesign system of video plugins
(thought we don't have anyone publicaly available right now anyway :))
