Not really, there are open-source ( not perfect, but pretty good ) decoders 
for many formats ( divx 3.11, divx 4, i263, ac3 audio, etc. )  in ffmpeg 
plugin, and there are 3 different open-source plugins capable of decoding 
mp3. One should be able to make avifile work on Mac and play most divx movies 
with it.
