Hi, I just tried to use divxdec -Y from the new mjpegtools release to pipe decoded YUV frames from a DivX file to another tool in the mjpegtools suite. They use your fine library to read avi files and generate YUV frame streams. It failed. Looking at a hexdump of the stream showed that the desired stream was intermixed with informational printf output from avifile.
I sent the mpegtools team a message. Please excuse this question if it is too naive. I do not know if there is some easy way from them to redirect stdout for your library calls while writing to stdout themselves. In any case is seems that it might be very useful for your library to have a 'silent' mode that does not write to stdout or a way to hand your library a file handle to use for 'informational' output. FWIW I haven't actually programmed anything serious in years so my ignorance is probably showing. But, I figure it can't hurt to raise the question.
