hi,

these are some avifile-related questions for the experts on this list
:-)

to implement a time-shift function in an existing tv viewer (i.e.
xawtv), one would need to constantly log the video into a stream, that
can be played by another process without closing the file.

- which codec supported by libavifile would be usable for that purpose
(divx apparently isn't)? (must support streaming and index search)
- is it possible to open the video access (v4l) nonblocking, so when
using vcr for example (or other program), it's still possible to start
xawtv (or other program) and still be able to connect to video?
- codec should also support deleting front parts of the file regularly
to keep videolog under certain size

is anyone already thinking/working in such a direction, or knows of any
projects that do?

many thanks!
