Does anyone has any idea - why sometime Qt & Xft refuse to work
together ?

I've build my own Qt3.0.3 and there are no problem with linking
them together...

Are you able to run some Qt app on your system ?

I could suggest this -

try to build avifile without Xft support
(i.e. make clean ; configure --disable-xft ; make)

If still doesn't help - build your own Qt3.0.3 from the sources
(maybe Xft library is too old - aren't you updating just some of
the packages?)

Please let me know if something from this helps.
