How did you set the mixer? It is there where you select the sound input for recording. You can set this with any mixer gui, eg. gmix. aumix -q gives you a listing, mine looks like this: okurth@blue:/other/home/okurth$ aumix -q vol 80, 80 pcm 80, 80 speaker 64, 64 line 77, 77, R mic 64, 64, P cd 100, 100, P igain 69, 69, P line1 76, 76, P phin 64, 64, P phout 64, 64 video 62, 62, P The sound recording input is 'line' here, indicated by the 'P', this is the internal connector from TV card to the sound card. If I set the rec input with gmix to, say, my cdrom, I would always record sound from my CD when I really wanted to record a movie...
