I've tried to build from cvs with the new xvid 1.0 rc1. Still no luck:

checking for xvid.h... yes
checking for xvid_init in -lxvidcore... no
configure: WARNING: Could not run XviD test program, checking why...
*** The test program compiled, but did not run. This usually means
*** that the run-time linker is not finding XviD or finding the wrong
*** version of XviD. If it is not finding XviD, you'll need to set your
*** LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable, or edit /etc/ld.so.conf to point
*** to the installed location Also, make sure you have run ldconfig if that
*** is required on your system

Here are the xvid libraries:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 650224 Jan 25 14:03 /usr/lib/libxvidcore.a
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root root 18 Jan 25 14:04 /usr/lib/libxvidcore.so -> libxvidcore.so.4.0
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root root 18 Jan 24 18:35 /usr/lib/libxvidcore.so.4 -> libxvidcore.so.4.0
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 569816 Jan 25 14:03 /usr/lib/libxvidcore.so.4.0

Is this an avifile issue or xvidcore? I'm cross-posting, because I'd really like to use the new xvid with avifile.
