Follow-up Comment #5, bug #34423 (project avr-libc):
I tried to backport the change from GCC's trunk to version
4.5.x, which appears to be successfull. I think it indeed
solves the issue.
Patch attached, if you're brave enough to give it a try, and
compile your own compiler with it.
