My comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek. The main problem seems to be
follow-through: willing to see that the software is completed and
debugged into a usable piece of software. This usually takes a certain
amount of commitment to the project. This is what seems to be lacking
the most. A lot of people talk about what it should, or shouldn't
contain, but not many people seem to be willing to help code it up.
Yup. The bane of any open source project, most die in the first year. People, often inexperienced, start off with wonderful ideas but get bogged down in execution or lose interest. It's a bit like starting your own company :)
