I started in with aw3d a couple weeks ago because I needed a software platform that would allow me to do real-time Flash 3d Dioramas. Well after a lot of work, I think this will work. The link above is really a "proof-of-concept" to see whether aw3d was reliable, precise and fast enough to achieve professional results. There are still some problems but I think I can make this work. If you can imagine, this kind of application (dioramas showing everything from nuclear power plants to architectural concepts to interiors) would be very useful. Just some notes: This would be phase I - there would be further re-work of the artwork and the code in later stages. I kept face count on models as low as possible. The texture maps are as small as possible. The worst thing was - I lost control of the 3d-modeling to the importing-to-aw3d workpath, and most of the modeling had to be all adjusted manually by the xyz numbers. What a pain - I have to figure out a better way to manage this in future projects. Therefore, this means I can't really use preFab, so I have to figure out a way to simulate shadows on the floor. It's the only thing I still have to do with this demo. I was thinking possibly making a second ground plane with the shadows and everything else transparent, layered just above the current floor. On my 2.5 ghz XP pc it seems to hover around reasonably well. I can see that the addition of much more stuff would start to bog it down. I know there's a lot more efficiency mods I could make, now that I know something about how aw3d works and what it's capabilities are. Since I've never heard of aw3d less than 3 weeks ago, and though I have looked at many of the demos, I would still love to get some feedback from all the smart people who are using this software and find out if this is a reasonable achievement or am I way behind the pack on aw3d possibilities, or maybe this is no accomplishment whatsoever. Maybe I've been doing tech too long (35 years) and have lost sight of today's competitive reality in this specific industry. I'm hoping to get approval from a client to create a finished (phase II) version of this. I would love to get some other business with this. Thanks to all the people who answered my dumb questions - you helped me get through this. Vic PS - I have a little nervousness about doing the svn updates - do you think it could ever happen that this swf will stop working if I do any svn updates? Did that ever happen to anyone? -- To unsubscribe, reply using "remove me" as the subject.
