One way would be use the LinearExtrusion class, but I have not been
able to figure out how to close the ends.

I once made my own primitive for arbitrarily-shaped slabs based on a
list of x-y points.  I used Cylinder.as as a starting point. It
covered all sides but the top/bottom surface triangles were formed
simply by drawing lines to 0,0 which made the rendering fairly poor
(long, thin triangles).

On my wish list for Away3D is an enhanced LinearExtrusion class that
allows the ends to be closed, and which can have different materials
for the ends vs. the sides.  (For example, for a cylinder, you may
want phong material for the curved sides but shading material for the
flat ends, so that the corners look right).
