I'm still trying to figure it out myself outside of away3d. Apparently when
you want to render transparent stuff in hardware, you need to turn off the
z-buffer, otherwise pixels in front will occlude pixels behind given that
molehill does not use the painters algorithm. Doing so makes you have to
worry about the order in which you render things.

I know that isn't much help, but is all I can offer.
