Hi guys,

I recently started learning Away3D (I picked up a copy of Away3D 3.6
Essentials) and I'm ready to start playing around with some simple
projects of my own, but I have a problem... I can't find any modeling
software that works with Away 3D.

I am having difficulty getting Collada demo files to play, and the
'beast.dae' demo file used in the book didn't come in the example
package 3_6_0 and I get "texture not found" errors for other DAE
models that I try to load. I kinda want to avoid collada anyway
because I suspect its heavier than MD2 (but I haven't gotten it to
load to do any performance tests, so I could be wrong). But I'm also
having problems with MD2. While I've gotten the example MD2
"troll.md2" to load and animate properly, it animates by animation
title "standing". My preferred MD2 editor is Milkshape, and doesn't
seem to support naming animations. I also tried fragMotion, which
supports exporting MD2 and named animations, but when I tried to play
back the file in my Away3D project, nothing happened.

So I'm kind-of stuck. Can someone please advise me on what modelling
software exports files correctly for use with Away3D, or what I am
doing wrong with the software I currently use so that I can use it for
Away3D? What are your personal preferences, or even better - what
would you recommend for someone new to using Away3D?

Thanks!
