oocairo looks promising. The only problems I see so far is that no distro seems to ship
oocairo (well, that would have to change then! ;-) ) and that, without modifying oocairo,
it's only possible to "move" images from lua to the awesome C core, not the
other way around. This would mean that reading client.content, imagebox.image,
wibox.shape_{clip,bounding} would no longer possible.
Do we want write-only properties or should we fork oocairo? :/
