Yes. Just don't use a function in your rc.lua to populate the widget but instead have your script
call something like 'echo mywidget:set_text("foo") | awesome-client', if you're using the
git version of awesome or 'echo mywidget.text = "foo" | awesome-client' when it's done
gathering data.
