A new Flyspray task has been opened. Details are below. User who did this - Tim Roes (timroes)
Attached to Project - awesome
Summary - Awesome cannot handle unmapped windows correctly
Task Type - Bug Report
Category - Core
Status - Unconfirmed
Assigned To - Operating System - Linux
Severity - Medium
Priority - Normal
Reported Version - git/3.5
Due in Version - Undecided
Due Date - Undecided
Details - Awesome WM cannot handle unmapped windows correctly. That mean, if a window gets unmapped it is still shown in the window list
and there is no event triggered (not even unfocus), that you could use in the
config to handle
it yourself.

I have this behavior in the current Valve Steam Beta, when closing any
additional dialog (Friends, Settings, ...).
An `xwininfo -id 0x... | grep Map` on that window gives the following output.

 Map State: IsUnMapped

whereas every other window gives:

 Map State: IsViewable
I don't know, how you do the unmapping of a window in any GUI toolkit (but I guess someone with knowledge in GTK or Qt does so).

Right now Steam is also the only application I have recognized that behavior.
The problem has also reported
to Steam (from someone else)
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/322, because it also
leaves the space reserved
in tiling mode.

If I can provide additional information, I am glad to do so.
