That's fine. Thanks for replying. It's a long-term annoyance, but it doesn't 
really stop anything critical for me. It just means that I have one or two 
programs (Vassal and CGoban3) that need to be floating, and that still have 
slightly odd behaviour. (Drag and drop is also strangely broken, but it's hard 
to describe exactly how and when. I suggest that Vassal, from vassalengine.org, 
is one application that definitely shows a number of these odd behaviours.)

I know that this probably isn't a helpful thing to say, but for reference it 
seems that i3 doesn't have these problems. I've seen some older discussions of 
xmonad and Java Swing applications, but I'm not sure if they've been fixed or 
not. I'll also emphasise that, as far as I know, it's Swing-based applications 
not just Java.
