Did you just run `export ...` in a terminal, and then launch firefox?  If
so, then that won't change anything.  You need to add the export into your
.bash_profile (or similar) and re-login.

Most importantly, have you taken a look at the hints on the wiki[0]?  That
solved a similar problem for me.
