After a fresh install of FreeBSD 8.2 and ports, awesome refuses to
draw any text for me. My window title bars are empty of text, but I
have the icons in the upper right. My task list shows the applications
icon, but no text. The work space tags (1..9) are all missing, but I
see the small square dot showing that there are windows present. The
clock in the task bar also is missing, but I have the icons showing
the layouts and the icons in the system tray. And all of the menus are
blank too.

I don't *think* its a font issue, as "pango-view --font='sans 8'"
works just fine, as does pango-view for "sans 18" and "sans 24" too. I
changed the font from "sans 8" to "sans 18" and then "sans 24" and
each time the blanks for the workspace tags got wider, so something
about the size is getting through.

I was using Awesome 3.4.9, but then did a portdowngrade to 3.4.8 and
I'm still having problems.

I'm really kind of stumped. Any thoughts?
