Hallo,

Maybe You could use overlapping quantity and modify the process time, f.e. if normally workctr1 does 40 pcs per hour
but workctr1 and workctr2 ran parallel does 30 pcs per hour, you can modify for both operation process time and qty
to 30 pcs per hour and set overlap qty for first operation per 1. This way system will treat the both operations as
sequential but difference between start time will be so little that capacity will be reserved almost at the same time.

10   primary           operation 1    workctr1    20   overlap qty=1
20   primary           operation 2    workctr2    0

Best regards

You are correct about my setup erroring too. My memory did not me serve well. The Step number needs to be the same but the Operation Name must be different. Would be like this...

10     Primary         Drill Machine    NC Machine #1   Next 20
10     Secondary1   Drill Operator    Operator #45      Next 20
10     Secondary2   Drill Jig             Jim #202           Next 20
20     Primary         Debur               Grinder #3         Next 30
30...

You are getting an error because the primary and secondary need to be on the same STEP and Operation. Step 20 cannot have a secondary unless it first has a primary. Also, to repeat, Axapta cannot split schedule an operation between two resources and will load the entire operation on the first available resource according to the routing. Work center task groups are used to seek alternative work centers when the primary resource has no available capacity but there is no Axapta mechanism that satisfies your implied case.

You seem to be wanting Axapta to schedule the manual work center for part of the production capacity requirement when it is standing idle while the automatic machine if fully scheduled for the production. Axapta has no standard function that will "split" the capacity load in this way. Perhaps it could be done by customizations.

Thank you for your notice but I am not trying to run parallel shared operation just for costing.
I also wanna watch the capacity planning and already existing empty capacity.

If I just write the primary operation to the route and write secondary work center work to the journal my costing will be calculated true but my capacity planing will work wrongly.

10   primary         operation   workctr1    0
20   secondary       operation     workctr2    0

I wrote wrongly my setup was like this trying to add run 2 operations at the same time with 2 different machines.

your setup shows an error too .

The setup you show is erroring because the primary/secondary need to
reference the same step and operation, not 10/20 and 1/2 like you have
attempted to define.

This Axapta function is commonly used to schedule secondary resources
for the same capacity reservation as the primary and would be used to do
something like synchronize scheduling for an operator and a tool with
the machine that they serve. The route would look like this.

10 Primary Drilling NC Machine #1
10 Secondary 1 Drilling NC Operator #3
10 Secondary 2 Drilling NC Jig #14

Notice that the Step "10" and Operation "Drilling" is common for all
three route lines. There is a Primary and two Secondaries. This "binds"
the resources for scheduling purposes.

When scheduling is run the operator and the jig will be scheduled for
the same working time as the NC Machine.

What you are trying to do is commonly referred to as "alternative"
routing, where an alternate resource is used to share the work. Axapta
will not do this scheduling-wise because it will do the entire capacity
reservation on the same resource from start to finish. However, when
adding lines to the Route Card journal one can choose to "charge" the
hours against an "alternate" work center. For example, the journal line
will default to the resource listed on the Production Route when a new
line is added to the journal, but the user can override this. In you
case the NC machine would have reservations for the order, but on the
journal line General tab, this could be changed to Work Center "Drill
Press 1" before posting the journal.

Hope this helps to clarify your case.

Subject: [Axapta-Knowledge-Village] Multiple workcenters parallel using
same operation name

Hi all;

I have a problem about work centers and operations.

I usually do an operation with one work center but If another work
center is empty I can divide my
operation into two parallel operations in one route .

But in axapta it does not let me to do this

as an example I can make holes on a plate by automated machine but if I
have my manually machine  empty I can make some of holes by using
manually machine.

10   primary           operation 1    workctr1    0
20   secondary       operation 2    workctr2    0

I get an error right here

Has anybody noticed this kind of problem?
