If you only want your search to be improved then I will suggest, you mark all those One Time Items to Stopped and then use Record Level Security. But if you want to delete those items from Item Master also then, although this is not recommended, you can delete those items if you are sure that transactions against it are 2-3 years old and you have performed Inventory Closing on regular basis.
