Well thankyou for your response, it seems no matter what
the volume of business, we have to always get up in the middle of the night to
fix something, or do something that the computers should do for
us.
Subuu,
Are you P&L's expressing the view of profit from the G/L perspective
using the Axapta Dimensions (3), and than broken down by transaction type, Hour,
Item,Cost, and their Categories Group Types.
Or is
income derived through the Sales Orders using Item Numbers to derive
the balance of your dimensions with the item's Item group,Manufacture, and
any others you have added.
I
thought MS OLAP Analysis server that came with SQL Server provided a good way to
get the dimensions back to a level where the data was easily spilt. Create a XL
= Excel Spreadsheet and plug that back into the OLAP Cube with a Pivot
Table
The
data you would want to see is preset into the Pivot Table and This Prints
Nicely and refreshes easily ( so long as it is connected to the source
(lan, wan, citrix) and is specific enough to keep many Excel links or worksheets
to various financial/Project info you need to
present.
Back
to realty, The volume of your problem shows me that Maintenance is a problem we
both have.

Hi Rocco,
We didn't buy Axapta OLAP for our reporting. Let me briefly give me my
project scenarios.
We had to develope P&L reports in Various currencies. The problem with
the format of the P:&L is , some of the rows in the P&L had to be shown
by Cost center /department wise while someoter rows direct account wise. And as
you know Axapta can not handle multi dimensional financial reporting. Hence we
opted for Targit.
Waht happens is : Targit also can not handle multi dimensiona reporting if
it uses Axapta database. The problem is not with the Targit. Its the problem
with Axapta. Why because, TARGIT database is directly coupled with Axapta Live
database so are the tables are mapped to directly with Targit tables. So we run
the DTS packae to refresh the TARGIT data base so that it will fetch the data as
in Axapta at the aprticular point of time.
It lead to enough maintenace. Like suddenly they used to post some entries
and they would like to see asap. Then I wake at the midnight, and refresh
the Targit EM in order to show the latest data.
Hence I created those reports in Axapta using some temp tables etc
etc..
Now we are using targit only for sales reporting. Because sales data we get
from XL files from outside the company. Hence we upload those data ( getting rid
of Axapta tables ) in to self created tables in Targit. Hence we can show
reports like anyway we wanted as its not using axapta database ( or the mapped
to axapta tables ).
Shipement history by location,by customer, by product , bar,pie etc tec etc
etc...
Numerous cubes and dimesions have been created to show the reports in
various dimesions for these data which came from XL.
Presently, we are uploading approximately 10M records in the
sales/shipment history. The performance is good.
I would say, it depends upon ur reports formats( financial ). If the
reports are half single dimesional and half the report is multiple dimesional,
its not Possible in targit if they are connected to axapta DB. but if you want
two seperate reports, with one report single dimesional and the other report
mutli dimesional, its possible in targit. But in the same report, with mixed
dimensional its not possible. we have to manually created hundres of
calculations which slows the targit perofrmance . its very cumbersome to make
any changes to that type of reports.
I am not very sure if I have answered your Q . but if you need anymore
clarifiacations, please contact me as we are using Targit since 6 months. And we
know what Targit can do also.
Thanks & Regards,
subbu

Hi SubbuDo you like the OLAP that is within Axapta or a SQL Bolt-on ? Multi dimension is critical in our workplace. My major concern is that Axapta Internal OLAP will slow everything else down while it builds the cubes or does anything quick and easy for the boss.. Can you explain 'can't handle multiple dimensional financial reports' like Branch & Department & Purpose , or do you mean more than that.Thankyou for taking the time to express an opinion.Rocco

"Leberbauer, Herbert - News" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:Hi Willem!Maybe it was already mentionend, but did you take a look at Business Analytics (BA) from Targit? They have some cubes for Axapta, and it doesn't touch Axapta too. It only connects to the DB where Axapta is located and transfers the data to its own DB (which is MS SQL). But there are DTS possibilities in SQL Server getting data from Oracle, so this should be no problem. On the other side until now we have BA only implemented with MS SQL (both for Axapta, and BA). But the response from our customers is very good.I'm also interested on how you'll solve this situation.regardsHerbert

Yes, I mean 15,000,000 records, our financial guys are spoiled and are registering everything.
I will post a solution, hopefully i will find someone very soon, I am looking since 6 months for one.

Does mio Mean 15,000,000 Records
I Lose performance after 100,000 and You have to be smart with the design , which I am sure you are, otherwise it falls over (Mircosoft our friends), Incude Cubes with Filters to reduce Unneccessary Data
Out of my league
Please put a post on how you went , I was think of buying it for Axapta
Good Luck

Hello,
Small problem, Rocco, we are working on Oracle.
We installed SQL Analysis server but the performance is not good enough.
Certain tables contain more then 15 mio records ...
Kind regards,
Willem

I Gather you bought the Licences.
It Would be interesting to see how you went.
I did it on the cheap by Installing the Sql Analysis server into your SQL Server and Use Excell Spreadsheets to Make them Pretty for the bosses.
