I have done a project same at you needed, and is little comlicate.

 

1) Create a new form to allow the hierarchy structure using a Tree.

2) Create a new field on the Dimension table to held the parent Dimension

3) Change the lookup to display only the dimension that is under the structure.

Has anybody done this before?

Have anybody tried to make relation between dimensions? For example, if
you select one department you will limit your number of choices in cost
centers.
