Hi Brandon

Why not use SQL Reporting Service?
This is came with Axapta examples.

Hi Brandon,

I’ve not deployed Crystal Reports on top of an Axapta database but I’ve done it on Great Plains, Accpac and a few other systems for exactly the same reason. The principle is identical.

It works well …. But you do need to be careful because it isn’t all plain sailing. The following is a list of issues that my co-workers(current and former)  and I have come across. Its not meant to be exhaustive.

  1. design of the queries used to feed Crystal with data becomes critical, especially when dealing with large databases and joining multiple tables
  2. a sound comprehension of the relationship between the tables is critical if you don’t want to provide your customer with garbage
  3. a sound comprehension of the impact that your query has on the database and server is important if you don’t want to cripple them when the report is run
  4. impact of uncommitted SQL transactions on your query’s execution and integrity

I hope this helps.

We are on Axapta 2.5 and use Crystal for anything other then the "Vanilla" reports contained in Axapta. I've recently updated to Crystal XI which is server based and web accessible, so now my users can access any of my reports from inside the enterprise or via the Internet. Report development, if you know Crystal, is pretty straight forward, you really just need a understanding of Axapta's table's and fields for content. The rest, at least in Crystal Developer 11 is drag and drop. Let me know if you need more info.

Maurice,

Do you have any examples, or any suggestions you could point out to me. Do you think you could get a simple example, or maybe some information of where they replaced an Axapta Report with a Crystal Report - Report?

thanks,

Brandon

Hi Brandon,

One of customer is using Crystal reports with Axapta and is pretty happy with it. I have never used it myself so I can only rely on their feedback.

Hello Everyone,

I have some more advice that I need.

Ok we are getting sick of using the clunky Axapta Report Designer. So we are investigating how easy it is just to scrap the Axapta Reports, and do all reports in Crystal Reports?

Has anyone ever done this before? Does anyone have any examples of using Crystal Reports and Axapta? Does anyone have any experience at doing such a thing?

thanks in Advance, in advise on this - either it's bad or good, or examples, any input at all please give it!

thanks,

Brandon
