what error are you getting. i am using this environment since a long time. THe only time you can get into problem is trying to connect to a client to connect to a higher version of application. i,e we should not use Sp2 client to connect to Sp3 or SP4.
If you have multiple installations on your machine and if you want to work on Axapta v3 - Sp3 and SP4 application then you have the client and server upgraded to Sp4 .
