Ah I think I see what you are getting at now Rick,

Thanks but I don’t want to filter the ID because this could be any value
(e.g. Lost in transit, Damaged, OverDelivery etc) but what I am trying to
control is that users only see the return actions that do not have the
'Scrap' ticked (i.e. users do not have authority to scrap the item)

I am just wondering this Return Action table has a field called 'Module'
which I believe also allows records to be created for sale or purchase
modules.  Therefore on the sales order lines this table is probably by
default being filtered by module==sales.  Will this affect anything?

Rick if your filtering works then I am guessing SP2 RLS might not be working
correctly (I think related to use of domains), can anyone confirm or give
'yes I think so' to this hunch of mine?

Thanks
James

James,

Why dont you filter the ID field instead of scrap field.
I'm using the RLS with Domain in SP 4 for my cleint.

  Thanks Rick,

Yes for this usergroup I gave full control on the user permissions to the
'ReturnAction' table.  Then in RLS for this group I created a rule for table
'ReturnAction', field 'Scrap' and criteria set as 'No'.

BUT this did not work.  Instead of showing me only the records with Scrap ==
No it basically didn’t show me any of the records!  If I created a new
record it would allow but straight away when I saved it it would disappear.
When I removed the RLS rule then I could see all the records (including the
one I created) so for sure something with the RLS is wrong (either I have
done wrong or the system has a bug...like I say I thought I recalled seeing
something about RLS not working with domains in earlier versions - mine is
SP2).

Did I do everything right?
Are other people running RLS okay with domains and if so what SP are you
using?

Thanks
James

Hi james,

  Return Action table is
filtered with 'Scrap' == 'No'
All other user groups have no access to the 'Return Action' table

You are asking for user permission or RLS?

as long as NoScrap user group have the permission to this table and the
RLS you set to ReturnActionDefaults 'table'
  returnactionid 'field'
  !Scrap 'criterial'

  Good Day

  Hi John and the rest,

Does RLS work in SP2 with domains?  I vaguely recall some posting about RLS
not working with Domains in some versions????

Anyway thanks for your advice I have setup a usergroup just for the RLS I
want as follows:

I created group 'NoScrap' this had full control to table 'Return Action'
I then created a RLS record for this group where the Return Action table is
filtered with 'Scrap' == 'No'
All other user groups have no access to the 'Return Action' table.

But this did not work as the user does not see any records in the return
action screen.  Anything I am missing?  I know inventdim is linked to
'Return Action' table do I need to do anything with that?

Thanks
James

Hi James,
to get RLS work properly you have to make sure that the users you want to
set it up for get their table rights just from one group (the one where you
set up RLS).
Rights are cumulative !!! The only exception is function rights and table
rights. You may have full control on e.g. custtable but only read-access on
the menu-item CustTable. So your user will only have read-access.
And it's the same the other way round.

Hi I am trying to get the RLS to work but not sure am I doing it right...

If a have two usergroups:

UserGroupA - setup permissions for table and form for ReturnAction
(fullcontrol)

UserGroupB - setup RLS rights filtering ReturnAction table Scrap == No

I have a user just in these 2 groups.

Now supposedly this setup will still show the user ALL the return action
records (whereas I just want to show the records with Scrap equal to
No)!!!!!

The online help mentions about if there is a usergroup with no RLS then the
user will get full RLS rights (i.e. see all records) so long as they have
full permission (i.e. full control permission).  So I am guessing in this
case the UserGroupA (which has no RLS set) is overriding the UserGroupB.

Is the result I am getting correct?  To me it does not seem the right way to
do things because I will have to make sure no other user group has
permissions set on the ReturnAction table in order to get my RLS to work!!!!

I am using SP2 with Domains (not sure if there are bugs with such
environment?)

Thanks
James
