Adding to the same :
Sales journal: This is used as Draft of the Order and will not be used for
further processing unless the same is changed to amother Type , say for
example, Sales Order or Blanket Order. Moreover as this only a draft no
inventory record is created and thus also not includeed in the MRP.
Sales Order: Once created can be taken further for all the Order Processing
Flows.. like Confirmation of Order, Pick, packing,e tc. At the same time this
effect the invemntory and MRP calculation.

It's the same as if you made the sales order type 'journal'
Good for things like import sales orders since you don't have to worry about
triggering inventtrans etc. Then you can just convert to sales order and it
will take care of all of that.
