As per my understanding you can run a data export wizard and select only
transactional record tables. I am not sure it allows you to flter these
records before exporting. This will give you a dat file which can be kept as
a backup. This dat file creation can be scheduled to run via a batch.

For the SQL DB these records meeting a criteria can be queried and deleted.
