Hi David,

Was in your situation as end user project manager many moons ago. However, what
you need to keep in mind, is that you need a partner that can support the
application that you want to implement. That being the case, the partner needs
to have a very good understanding of what the application can deliver. If your
key users are able to table requirements very clearly, then you need a partner
that is able to interpret those requirements and reflect those processes on the
solution of choice. In the process of doing so, the consultants need to have
the ability to question current business practices, with a holistic view.
Consultants need to have a particular bent of mind, along with understanding of
the solution that they specialise in.

You also want to consider that the partner needs to have the ability to throw
in additional resources, as and when necessary to support the implementation
process.

You should also look very closely at the project manager each of these
companies is going to provide, as these could make or mar the project. A
preview of the project plan will give you an insight on the thinking of the
company and the philosophy. Look at documentation, as it will tell you of a
corporate philosophy for 'eye for detail' (the more detail the documentation
the better).

Just a few pointers.

Hope this helps, and let me know which way you go and why.

Cheers.

Rajesh
